25 June 21 - Tips To Organise A Fabulous Family Fun Day

We are all hoping normal summer activities can get going again in a few week’s time, after the disappointing delay to the final easing of the lockdown restrictions. If you are looking on the bright side, and planning a family fun day for later on this summer, here are some ideas about how to make it an extra special event for everyone.

1. Find a venue

Local parks are usually a great location for a fun day, because they are easily accessible, and will have attractive green spaces, as well facilities such as toilets and litter bins already in place. If this is not an option, you could approach recreation grounds, or local landowners to see if you can hire a field. Remember you may need to apply for Temporary Events Notice.

2. Pick a date and time

Think about who will be attending, and choose a suitable day which doesn’t clash with other major events regionally or nationally, and isn’t in the peak holiday season when many families are likely to be away. If small children are attending, it’s best to get events underway on the early side, before they become too tired.

3. Organise the entertainment

You will want plenty of stalls and amusements to keep everyone entertained! There are lots of options, from hiring a bouncy castle, building a stage for local bands or comedians, or hiring some giant board games.

4. Have some fun foods

There will need to be a refreshment stall selling hot and cold beverages, and snacks such as hot dogs and crisps. You could also hire some traditional fairground food stalls which sell candyfloss and popcorn. This will keep the kids happy and make the adults nostalgic for their youth!

5. Spread the word

Make sure as many people get to hear about the event as possible, by getting the word out on social media, in local papers and shops, and distributing some posters and flyers.
